The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a severe thunderstorm warning until 6:30 p.m. for Dallas County.
At 5:53 p.m. a severe thunderstorm was located 9 miles west of Adel and moving northeast at 50 mph.
Wind gusts of 60 mph and penny size hail are reported. Damage to roofs, siding and trees is predicted.
Along with Perry, cities impacted by the warning include West Des Moines, Ankeny, Urbandale, Johnston, Clive, Waukee, Grimes, Adel, Polk City, Saylorville, Dallas Center, Earlham, Granger, Panora, De Soto, Woodward, Van Meter, Saylorville LLake and Big Creek Lake.
The warning area includes U.S. Interstate 35 near mile marker 93 and U.S. Interstate 80 between mile markers 98 and 117 and between mile markers 126 and 130.
A tornado watch remains in effect until 10 p.m.
