Severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 10 p.m. Tuesday

The National Weather Service office in Des Moines has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m. Tuesday for the Perry area and much of southern and southwestern Iowa.

Tornadoes are possible and scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph. Widespread large hail and isolated very large hail, up to 2.5 inches in diameter, is likely.

Along with Dallas County, the watch area includes Adair, Adams, Audubon, Cass, Clarke, Decatur, Fremont, Guthrie, Harrison, Madison, Mills, Montgomery, Page, Pottawattamie, Ringgold, Shelby, Taylor and Union.

Along with Perry, the watch area includes the cities of Adair, Adel, Atlantic, Audubon, Bayard, Bedford, Casey Corning, Creston, Earlham, Exira, Fontanelle, Greenfield, Guthrie Center, Lamoni, Lenox, Leon, Mount Ayr, New Market, Osceola, Panora, Stuart, Waukee and Winterset.
