A net gain in public safety was made in downtown Perry Monday when the alleyway entrance to the Perry Perk coffeehouse at 1201 Warford St. received a concrete resurfacing.

The ancient and narrow way between Second and Third streets had a fearsome tendency to collect water where it meets Warford Street. In winter the sidewalk and alleyway became a virtual skating rink, posing a danger to pedestrians seeking coffee and sweet rolls.

The resurfaced alley entrance promises a smoother, safer passge between the Mary Rose Collection at 1215 Warford St. and the Perry Perk.

As the concrete set, a group of local figures could been seen admiring the handiwork from afar, local artist and entrepreneur Jenny Eklund, Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson and Perry Public Works Director Jack Butler.
