Wednesday morning brought the semi-annual bus inspection day to the Perry school system, and Verlan Vos, state inspector for the central district of Iowa, came to Perry prepared with gloves, flashlight and knee pads in order to check all school vehicles and ensure their safety.
The twice-yearly inspections, conducted by the Iowa Department of Education with assistance from the Iowa State Patrol, are performed statewide on every vehicle that is used as a school bus in Iowa.
“I first met Verlan when he inspected vehicles at my former district,” said Perry Community School District Superintendent Lynn Ubben. “He does a great job and is a neat person as well.”
Ubben praised PCSD Transportation Director Troy Griffith and District Mechanic Ralph Walker for their diligence in maintaining the district’s fleet of buses, vans and cars.
“Kudos to Troy, Ralph and our transportation department on another good report,” Ubben said.
All school bus inspection reports are available on the Iowa Department of Education website.
