Two Guthrie County men face first-degree burglary charges after allegedly entering a residence in rural Dexter early Friday. Prall was allegedly armed.

A Dallas County homeowner reported a burglary in progress about 3:15 a.m. Friday at a home in rural Dexter, and a prompt response by Dallas County Deputy Sheriffs led to the arrest of two men in connection with the incident.

Matthew Prall, 40, of Anita was charged with first-degree burglary and felon in possession of a firearm.

Charles Edward Sanders, 42, of Guthrie Center, was charged with first-degree burglary, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to law enforcement radio traffic, the homeowner and an adult son were in the house at 15133 Bear Creek Road when two or three persons unknown to them could be heard in the attached garage and attempting to enter the house.

The homeowner “was talking to them through the door,” and “they were asking for money and rummaging through the garage,” radio traffic indicated.

One of the intruders was said to be armed with a pistol.

Dallas County Sheriff’s Deputies responded and located Prall and Sanders in the vicinity. The suspects were arrested, booked into the Dallas County Jail and await an initial appearance Friday morning.

Prall was arrested and charged by the Cass County Sheriff’s office in November 2016 with third-degree attempted burglary, attempted escape from custody, public intoxication, disorderly conduct and interference with official acts. He pleaded guilty in Cass County District Court to attempted escape from custody, and the other charges were dismissed.

Prall was also convicted in February 2019 on a charge of first-degree harassment in Cass County District Court.
