A Texas man was arrested in Earlham Wednesday when a Dallas County Deputy Sheriff found him allegedly in possession of almost two ounces of marijuana.

John Charles Garcia, 53, of 306 Second St., Bayside, Texas, was charged with controlled substance violation, failure to affix drug stamp, possession of drug paraphernalia and interference with official acts.

The incident began about 3 p.m. Wednesday in the 19000 block of Jewell Drive in Earlham, where Garcia allegedly “refused to exit” his 2005 Ford Ranger and “refused to hand” over drug paraphernalia to the uniformed deputy sheriff, according to court records.

A search of Garcia and his vehicle disclosed “49 grams of green leafy substance that field tested for marijuana” as well as “a green and blue rubber bong with residue, burnt tin foil, glass pipe with residue and a small waxmaid end with residue,” according to court records.

Garcia is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $5,000 cash-only bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing for March 9 in Dallas County District Court.
