Thunderstorms predicted through midweek, NWS says

According to the Des Moines office of the National Weather Service, periodic thunderstorms are expected in the Perry area from Friday night into early next week, including Memorial Day.

Severe weather, primarily in the form of large hail, damaging winds and moderate to heavy rainfall, will be possible at times. Flash flooding and river flooding risks will increase through the weekend.

The NWS predicts a brief break in thunderstorm activity Sunday, with a recurrence of storms through midweek.

Along with the Perry area and Dallas County, the NWS forecast applies to the central Iowa counties of Emmet, Kossuth, Winnebago, Worth, Palo Alto, Hancock, Cerro Gordo, Pocahontas, Humboldt, Wright, Franklin, Butler, Bremer, Sac, Calhoun, Webster, Hamilton, Hardin, Grundy, Black Hawk, Crawford, Carroll, Greene, Boone, Story, Marshall, Tama, Audubon, Guthrie, Polk, Jasper, Poweshiek, Cass, Adair, Madison, Warren, Marion, Mahaska, Adams, Union, Clarke, Lucas, Monroe, Wapello, Taylor, Ringgold, Decatur, Wayne, Appanoose and Davis.
