Toddler Fest thrills the younger set while educating their parents

A bin full of rice and some plastic tools had the full attention of the these youngsters Saturday during the 4th annual Toddler Fest at the Dallas County Fairgrounds in Adel.

ADEL — Saturday’s 4th annual Toddler Fest drew as many as 500 to the Dallas County Fairgrounds for two hours of fun and information.

Sponsored by the 12 public libraries of the Dallas County Library Association and 4RKids Early Childhood Iowa, the event began at 10 a.m. and lasted some time past the announced 12 p.m. closing.

Numerous businesses and organizations had interactive displays, with each child receiving a free book. Hy-Vee provided a seemingly endless supply of cookies, with the Dallas County Sheriff Department providing youth ID and allowing youngsters to explore a patrol car.

Cinderella and Tinkerbell posed for photos with adoring fans, as did Captain America and Supergirl. Balloon artists, face painting, bins filled with corn and rice, over-sized building blocks, hula hoops, self-created sidewalk chalk and many other activities and venues attracted eager youngsters.

Numerous materials were available for parents on toddler health, nutrition, education and other areas.
