Dallas County Sheriff Chad Leonard, right, pointed out features of the jail pod for Dallas County Supervisor Kim Chapman, center, and Dallas County Operations and Finance Director Rob Tietz during a Jan. 21 tour of the new Dallas County Law Enforcement Center. Tours of the completed facility will be given Sunday, Sept. 13 from 2-8 p.m.

The public is invited to tour new Dallas County Law Enforcement Center Sunday, Sept. 13 between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tours will start every 30 minutes, and tourists are asked to bring a face mask for reasons of public health.

Construction of the $23 million, 57,000-square-foot project at 25979 U.S. Highway 6 in the Ortonville area of Adel began with a groundbreaking Nov. 9, 2017. Dallas County voters approved financing for the new county jail in a May 2017 special election.

The Sept. 13 tour will include the new sheriff’s administrative offices, which include the patrol, investigations and civil law offices, and the central building, which houses the jail administrative services, including an initial appearance courtroom.

The northernmost building is the jail pod itself, with its two-tier, 92-bed arrangement, expandable to 172 beds. It is unknown whether the tour will include the jail pod.
