The trial of Eric Chandler Parmenter, 29, of Ankeny and formerly of Perry began Monday on four counts of third-degree sexual abuse-forcible rape. The judge dismissed two of the counts on a motion by the Dallas County Attorney's office.

A district court judge dismissed Monday two of the four counts of third-degree sexual abuse filed against a Perry man in March.

Judge Richard B. Clogg accepted a motion by Assistant Dallas County Attorney Ericka W. Clark to dismiss half the charges against Eric Chandler Parmenter, 29, of Ankeny and formerly of Perry. In her motion, Clark said the dates of two of the two earlier offenses made their successful prosecution impossible.

According to court records, Parmenter allegedly committed the first two rapes in September 2008 and the third and fourth attacks in the summer of 2010. All the alleged crimes occurred in Perry.

Parmenter still faces two counts of third-degree sexual abuse-forcible rape of a female under the age or 18 without her consent.

The victim reported the alleged sexual abuse to law enforcement in June 2017, and an investigation by the Perry Police Department resulted in Parmenter’s arrest March 16, 2018.

Jury selection in Parmenter’s trial began Monday in Dallas County District Court before Judge Gregory A. Hulse. Opening statements are expected Tuesday.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
