What a difference a month makes!
The commercial space at 1114 First Ave. that used to house BTWI has been transformed into Perry’s newest ice cream parlor, Frio, complete with an eye-catching sign on the wall advertising the product.
Frio is slated to open officially Tuesday, Aug. 14, filling a gap in Perry’s ice cream marketplace left by the closure last June of the Firehouse Ice Cream shop and then of the Mars Dairy Bar last September.
In order to prime the pump for the official opening, Frio ice cream will be served this week at the Perry Farmer’s Market and over the weekend, according to Hotel Pattee owner Tom Maxwell.
Frio is the Spanish word for cold, and the idea for the new ice cream outlet came from Maxwell and Aaron Lenz, general manager of the Hotel Pattee. The building is part of the Hotel Pattee property and lies across the alley to the north of the Perry City Hall.
“Hope to be open officially by August 14,” Maxwell said.
