Monday is the scheduled start date for an Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) bridge replacement on U.S. Highway 169 just north of 170th Street. The roadway is currently scheduled to reopen Aug. 21.
Traffic on the stretch of road between Iowa Highway 141 and Minburn will be detoured west to County Road P58 between Iowa Highways 44 and 141, according to the DOT detour map.
A box culvert will replace the narrow bridge, according to DOT Resident Construction Engineer Jennifer Hoskins, who is supervising the project from her Jefferson office.
Adair-based Gus Construction secured the contract for the job, Hoskins said. Gus said it would complete the job in 40 days, excluding weekends and possible rain days, she said.
Hoskins said timber was cleared from around the bridge in March, prior to the April 15 deadline set by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources that marks the beginning of the mating season of several species of protected birds.
