Alexander Douglas Cadwell, 34, of Adel was arrested Thursday on charges of driving while barred and interference with official acts.

An Adel man was arrested on a Dallas County warrant Thursday in connection with a January incident in which he allegedly tried to elude a traffic stop by abandoning his vehicle and fleeing into the woods.

Alexander Douglas Cadwell, 34, of 1510 Greene St., Adel, was charged with driving while barred and interference with official acts.

The incident occurred about 1:15 a.m. Jan. 20 in the 24000 block of eastbound U.S. Highway 6, where an officer of the Adel Police Department attempted to make a traffic stop on a Jeep Cherokee with no license plates.

The driver of the Jeep, Cadwell, did not stop but rather allegedly “accelerated at a high rate of speed in an attempt to elude law enforcement,” according to court records.

At length the Jeep “abruptly pulled over to the shoulder of the road,” and Cadwell “fled out the passenger-side door” and “ran into the woods nearby and was not located,” according to court records.

A follow-up investigation concluded that Cadwell was the driver of the Jeep, and a warrant for his arrest was ordered Jan. 24 in Dallas County District Court and served Feb. 9.

Cadwell was held in the Dallas County Jail prior to his release on his own recognizance. He is scheduled for arraignment March 24 in Dallas County District Court.

Cadwell was arrested Jan. 3 in Waukee on a charge of driving while barred. The case is pending in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of driving while license denied or revoked in 2020 in Madison County District Court. He was convicted of eluding and interference with official acts-bodily injury in 2005 in Polk County District Court.
