Hunter Rio Randall Keasey, 22, of Dallas Center was arrested Sunday on charges of third-degree burglary, fourth-degree criminal mischief and simple assault.

A Dallas Center man is in custody after he was shot late Sunday for allegedly burglarizing a home in rural Perry.

Hunter Rio Randall Keasey, 22, of 25431 N Ave., Dallas Center, was charged with third-degree burglary, fourth-degree criminal mischief and simple assault.

A statement from the Dallas County Sheriff’s office said the shooting at 19408 123rd Pl. was reported about 10:48 p.m., when a resident of the 123rd Place property called 911.

Dallas County Deputy Sheriffs and Perry Police Department officers responded and found Keasey with “multiple gun shot wounds,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement released Monday morning.

“It was quickly determined that Keasey was actively trying to break into the residence when the home owner defended his family and fired multiple rounds at Keasey,” the sheriff’s office said.

Keasey was airlifted to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines for non-life- threatening injuries and was later released to the Dallas County Jail, where he is held on a $6,300 cash or surety bond in advance of an initial appearance in Dallas County District Court.

The residents at 19408 123rd Place are cooperating with the investigation, according to the sheriff’s statement. There is no relationship between Keasey and the people on 123rd Place, and there is no danger to the public at this time.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s office was assisted by the Perry Police Department, Dallas County EMS and the Dallas County Attorney’s office.
