A friend of the accident victim in the one-vehicle rollover Saturday night west of Granger posted a picture of the victim's missing puppy on Facebook Sunday. "Her name is Athena," the friend wrote. "She is still missing. Please help find her."

A 17-year-old female was transported by air ambulance from the scene of the one-vehicle rollover accident Saturday night on Iowa Highway 141 west of Granger, and the puppy traveling with the girl remains missing Sunday.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s office responded to the incident about 9:30 p.m. after it was “reported that the vehicle was upside down and the driver was injured and trapped in the vehicle,” according to a statement released Sunday by Dallas County Sheriff Chad Leonard.

A Mercy One helicopter responded to the incident due to the severity of injuries received by the female driver, Leonard said. Westbound traffic on Iowa Highway 141 was detoured onto 170th Street while the helicopter was on scene.

“As of the morning of June 9, the juvenile is doing well but is still in the hospital,” Leonard said.

A witness to the accident said the teenage driver was more worried about her puppy than about herself.

“My mom tried to calm the young woman in the vehicle,” the witness said. “She finally was talking. She was very concerned for her puppy.”

The witness said she and some other witnesses tried unsuccessfully to find the missing animal.

“There were several of us that were using our phones to search the immediate area for the pup, but we never even heard a whimper,” she said.

The accident investigation is still ongoing, Leonard said.

The Woodward Police Department, Granger Police Department, Woodward Volunteer Fire Department, Granger Volunteer Fire Department, Dallas County Sheriff’s office and Dallas County EMS responded.

  1. We didn’t see the rollover happen, but we saw the smoke and dust from it just ahead of my car coming back home from Grimes. We where the first ones to stop. I am so proud of my girls, Haylee Ollivant and Jenna Ollivant. As soon as I stopped, they where the first ones out of the van to run and see if they could help and to see if the driver was okay. I called 911. We are also trying to help find her puppy. We will go back out tomorrow again to look for her.
