The fire that destroyed the house at 705 Jones St. Sunday morning began in the garage.

The fire that destroyed a house on New Year’s Day apparently started in the garage at the rear of the property, Perry Volunteer Fire Department Chief Chris Hinds told ThePerryNews.com Sunday morning.

No injuries were reported in the blaze at 705 Jones St., which was reported about 5:15 a.m. as fully engulfed.

The Perry Volunteer Fire Department responded and requested mutual aid from the Woodward Volunteer Fire Department. Firefighters were on the scene until about 9 a.m.

Hinds said the cause of the fire is under investigation by PVFD Investigator Brian Eiteman. Built in 1910, the house is owned by Bianca Casas of Perry, according to Dallas County records. The family was away when the fire started.

A GoFundMe page has been established to assist the family in recovering from the loss.

Officers of the Perry Police Department evacuated the residents of nearby houses in light of the risk of the fire’s spreading. Hinds said the structures on each side of the Casas home, at 703 Jones St. and 709 Jones St., sustained only minor damage.

The Woodward Volunteer Fire Department’s ladder truck got stuck in the muddy quagmire in the parking along Jones Street, and Hanifen Towing extricated the vehicle about 11 a.m.

The Perry Police Department, Dallas County Sheriff’s office and Dallas County EMS also responded to the holiday blaze.

ThePerryNews.com will update this story as information becomes available.
