A Perry woman was issued a citation Thursday evening for failure to yield upon entering a through highway after the moped she was driving struck a motor vehicle on North Street between Second and Third streets in Perry.

Amanda Martin of 1710 Second St. in Perry was operating the 2014 Buddy 50 Genuine Scooter and was carrying a 10-year-old female passenger on the rear when the mishap occurred about 8 p.m.

Martin and the child were treated at the scene by the Perry First Responders and Dallas County EMS before Martin and the child’s adult guardian refused transportation to the hospital.

“My daughter was riding on the back of my friend’s scooter with my friend,” said Jennifer Kilby of Perry. “My daughter leaned, causing them to skid down the alley and scrape the back end of a passing car.”

The passing vehicle was operated by Madeline Jans of Perry.

“My daughter was very frightened and has a sprained ankle,” Kilby said, but “my friend got it a lot worse, way worse.”

Kilby said she was “grateful it wasn’t more serious.”
