The 30-pound Maine Coon named Furiosa returned to the home of her owners Wednesday night after a 48-hour absence.

The Maine Coon cat missing since Monday returned to the home of its owner Wednesday night amid much rejoicing.

“She is home!” said the relieved owner. She said the cat, Furiosa, had not previously shown any interest in escaping.

The 30-pound Maine Coon was not wearing a collar. She appeared to be happy and healthy after her 48-hour romp in the great outdoors.

Nationwide about 85 percent of lost animals are recovered each year, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Cat owners are less likely to find their animals, with a 74 percent found rate, while dog owners have better luck at 93 percent found.

About half of cat guardians find their cat because it returned home on its own, with 30 percent finding their cat by searching the neighborhood and 2 percent finding their lost cats at a shelter. The society recommends tags or microchips for all pets.
