Johnnie Carl Starry, 38, of Perry faces charges of domestic assault by impeding breathing, domestic assault, false imprisonment, obstruction of emergency communications and violation of a no-contact order Wednesday after a four-hour standoff with the Perry Police Department Wednesday morning.

The Perry man occupying officers of the Perry Police Department in a four-hour standoff Wednesday morning, Johnnie Carl Starry, 38, faces charges of domestic assault by impeding breathing, domestic assault, false imprisonment, obstruction of emergency communications and violation of a no-contact order, the Perry Police Department said Wednesday afternoon.

According to a statement released by Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn, the incident began about 2:30 a.m. with a wireless 911 call. The caller did not identify herself, but officers located a possible address for the caller by investigating the phone number.

Officers responded to the residence and attempted to make contact, Vaughn said. After a short time, a female exited the residence and reported an assault had taken place. The Perry Police Department determined the female victim had a valid no-contact order in place against Starry.

She was removed from the scene, interviewed about the circumstances of the incident and treated for minor injuries, Vaughn said. The victim said Starry was possibly armed.

Officers could see Starry moving around inside the house and attempted to make contact with him. Family members eventually made contact with Starry and put law enforcement in communication with him.

Starry surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody about 6:30 a.m. He was transported first to the Dallas County Hospital and then to the Dallas County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed, according to Vaughn.
