Van Meter man arrested for allegedly assaulting girlfriend

Travis Lee Jimmerson, 29, of Van Meter was arrested Thursday on charges of first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A Van Meter man was arrested Thursday afternoon after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.

Travis Lee Jimmerson, 29, of 416 Pleasant St., Van Meter, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The incident began about 3:15 p.m. Thursday in the 400 block of Pleasant Street, where an officer of the Van Meter Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.

The officer made contact with Jimmerson and the female victim and observed “signs of a physical struggle and blood,” according to court records.

Jimmerson “produced a video from a camera downstairs,” which the officer reviewed and determined that Jimmerson was allegedly “the primary aggressor” in the fight, according to court records.

The officer observed on the victim “a cut on her left wrist area and a swollen and bloody lip” and observed in the video that Jimmerson did allegedly “shove, strike open-handed and wrestle with the female victim,” according to court records.

“Drugs were mentioned” in the video, according to court records, and a search of the residence disclosed “a plastic container that contained multiple glass smoking pipes” that were “used to smoke methamphetamine.”

Jimmerson is held in the Dallas County Jail in advance of an initial appearance in Dallas County District Court.

Jimmerson was convicted of possession of drug paraphernalia and first-offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana in 2015 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of possession of drug paraphernalia in 2018 in Warren County District Court. He was convicted of first-offense possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine in 2019 in Polk County District Court. He was convicted of first-offense possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine and first-offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana Feb. 1 in Polk County District Court. in 2019 in Polk County District Court.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
