Van Meter man arrested for allegedly assaulting woman

Joseph Allen Roeder, 53, of Van Meter was arrested Monday on a charge of first-offense domestic abuse assault with intent to inflict serious injury.

A Van Meter man was arrested Thursday for allegedly assaulting a woman during a domestic dispute Monday night.

Joseph Allen Roeder, 53, of 105 Feller Curve, Van Meter, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault with intent to inflict serious injury.

According to court records, the incident occurred about 10 p.m. Monday, when Roeder allegedly “used his knee to drop into the rib cage and hold down the victim in an attempt to obtain her purse to get her out of the residence.”

When the victim “screamed in pain,” Roeder allegedly “used force by shoving her cellular telephone into her mouth, causing injury,” according to court records.

Roeder is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for an initial appearance Dec. 18 in Dallas County District Court.

Roeder was convicted of assault in 1993 in Polk County District Court. He was convicted of assault causing bodily injury, two counts of assault and felon in possession of a firearm in 1995 in Polk County District Court.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
