Joel David Bartz, 39, of Van Meter was arrested Monday on charges of assault and fifth-degree criminal mischief.

A Van Meter coach and teacher allegedly got a little too rough last month in trying to stop some teenage bad actors bent on toilet papering the coach’s residence.

Joel David Bartz, 39, of 4920 Katelyn Ave., Van Meter, was charged with assault and fifth-degree criminal mischief.

The charges stemmed from an incident occurring about 10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, when Bartz allegedly “stopped a truck with students who were going to toilet paper his home because he is a coach and teacher,” according to court records.

In thwarting the evildoers, Bartz allegedly “grabbed the victim and pulled him down, hitting him in the back and back of the head several times,” according to court records.

In resisting the toilet papering, Bartz also allegedly “ripped the victim’s black shirt.”

Bartz is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $300 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled to make an initial appearance Tuesday in Dallas County District Court.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
