Vase-wielding woman allegedly assaults man, endangers kids

Shawnique Michelle Alexander, 31, of West Des Moines was arrested Wednesday on charges of first-offense domestic abuse assault-intent to inflict serious injury and child endangerment.

A West Des Moines woman allegedly assaulted her male roommate with a glass vase and threw a TV down the stairs while six minor children looked on Wednesday night.

Shawnique Michelle Alexander, 31, of 8602 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-intent to inflict serious injury and child endangerment.

The incident occurred about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at Alexander’s West Des Moines residence, where officers of the West Des Moines Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.

According to court records, Alexander allegedly struck the victim “in the head with a glass vase, causing the victim’s head to bleed.”  The victim also sustained “a bleeding cut on his finger from the altercation.”

Alexander also allegedly “threw a television down the stairs” in the presence of six minor children, ranging in age from 8 months to 14 years, and in so doing “exposing the
children to the risk of physical injury and mental distress,” according to court records.

Alexander is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash-only bond. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing June 1 in Dallas County District Court.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
