W-G's Payton Tague bursts into the open for a gain of 47 yards in the first quarter against Mount Ayr Frid

WOODWARD — Payton Tague returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, and Austin Scharlau followed with a two-point conversion run to give host Woodward-Granger all the points they would need Friday to defeat visiting Mount Ayr.

The Hawks (5-2, 4-1) went on to post a 22-6 win, but the main cause of celebration was the knowledge that the victory was the 100th for head coach George Ashman, who — already soaked from the rain — was doused further by a raucous group of happy gridders.
