Banners at the 2017 Latino Festival read, "Immigrants Make America Great," and "No Human Being is Illegal," and the truths are no less true in 2020.

The ¡Viva Perry! La Reina de la Festival or Queen of the Festival contest is always a highlight of the annual celebration in downton Perry.

The annual ¡Viva Perry! Latino Festival, sponsored by Hispanics United for Perry (HUP), will be held Saturday, Aug. 24 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Second Street in downtown Perry, preceded by the 10 a.m. parade along Willis Avenue from 12th Street to downtown.

The festival features kids’ activities throughout the afternoon, with tons of food and drink and dancing both folkloric and modern. The beauty of culture will be concentrated in La Reina de la Festival or Queen of the Festival competition. HUP will also hand out its annual award for community supporter of the year.

“Our hope is that ¡Viva Perry! will as always be a vibrant street festival and a wonderful opportunity to showcase hometown pride,” a HUP representative said.

The ¡Viva Perry! Festival is the primary fundraiser for HUP, with proceeds supporting scholarships for graduating seniors and continuing education. HUP counts on the support of the Perry community in its efforts. Contributions toward the HUP scholarships should be directed HUP c/o Daniel Rivera, Raccoon Valley Bank, 1202 Second St., Perry, IA 50220.
