W-G boys track starts season with visit to Winterset

The W-G boys started their outdoor track season Friday at Winterset.

WINTERSET — A Friday visit to the Husky Invitational served as the outdoor track season opener for the Woodward-Granger boys squad.

Carlisle won the meet with 118 team points, narrowly edging Nevada, who was second at 116. Norwalk (105) was third, with W-G placing eighth in the 12-team field.

The Hawks placed in three relays and one individual event, with Brendan Bird and Brody Easter each scoring points in the discus.

Bird placed third with a best spin of 122 feet, 10 inches, with Easter sixth at 116’8.

The W-G distance medley foursome of Bryce Achenbach, Reese Jamison, Caleb Jones and Kade Polich placed third in 3 minutes, 50.98 seconds, with the 4×400 quartet of Chandler Cavanaugh, Josh Saak, Ian Thompson and Achenbach crossing third in 3:40.6.

Also scoring for the Hawks were Jay Dorenkamp, Achenbach, Jamison and Cavanaugh after the foursome finished fifth in 46.7 seconds in the 4×100.

Woodward-Granger is scheduled to host the coed Hugh Cavanaugh Relays Thursday at Hawk Stadium. The meet is slate to begin at 4:30 p.m.
