ODGEN, Iowa — Woodward-Granger came up on the short end of all four of their team contests at the Ogden Duals Saturday.
Algona, Kuemper Catholic and Carroll claimed the top three spots, with W-G tying for 10th in a 10-team field.
W-G dropped a 62-15 outing to Greene County in their opening dual, then had a bye. They returned to action to finish with a 42-42 result against Gilbert, but the Tigers won on a tiebreaker with a 9-5 edge in total near-fall points). Carroll topped W-G, 49-21, in the fourth round, with Algona a 72-12 winner in the final dual for W-G.
Alex Saxton was 3-1 at 106 pounds with a fall and decisions of 13-8 and 9-6, with Alex Evans 3-1 at 285 with two pins and a forfeit.
Holden Heard finished 2-2 at 120 with two forfeits and Kolby Fogarty 2-2 at 182 with a pin and a forfeit while Bryce Hockensen was 1-1 at 195 and 1-0 at 220, winning both by forfeit.
James Dorrian (126), Jayden Flugge-Smtih (132) and Tjaden Smeltzer (138) were all 1-3, with each Hawk recording their win by fall.
Brayden Simons won by fall to finish 1-2 at 152 pounds, with Dustin Harney 0-1 in his only match of the day, held at 170.
W-G’s Abraham Bell (113), Corbyn Atwell (145) and Max Dalton (160) were all unable to scrape together a win in the four matches each wrestled.
W-G will join Bondurant-Farrar at Des Moines Roosevelt for a triangular Thursday before competing Saturday in Ogden at the WCAC tournament, the final pre-holiday action of the season.
