W-G harriers continuing to show solid results

MADRID, IA — Woodward-Granger cross country won the girls side and scored well in the boys team race Thursday at the Madrid Invite.

The Hawk girls scored 37 points to edge Ogden, at 41, for top honors, with Madrid (48) third and Colo-NESCO (95) fourth. Several schools without the five runners needed for an official score were also in action, creating a 39-runner field.

Odgen ran off with the boys crown on 36 points. Madrid nipped Perry, 63-64, for second place, with W-G (83) fourth and Woodward Academy (117) fifth. A total of 78 harriers ran in the boys race.

W-G freshman Eva Fleshner continued to shine with yet another victory, crossing first in 19 minutes, 42.67 seconds, well ahead of runner-up Katelyn Bandhorst of Madrid (20:44.3).

Libby Grell was seventh in 24:00.97, Danika Leuenberger eighth in 24:31.04 and Jaidyn Achenbach ninth in 24:34.18, with Chloe Creger ninth in 25:00.51. Also running for the varsity but not scoring were Adysen Churchill (16th, 25:17.6) and Talia Wright (24th, 28:01.42).

Madrid juniors Ethan Leutzenheiser (16:39.74) and Clay Warson (17:07.82) claimed the top two boys individual spots, with W-G’s Carsten Wright the first Hawk to finish when he crossed seventh in 18:47.99.

Dillon Limoges (16th, 19:51.4), Healey Hill (18th, 20:22.38), Cael Leighton (20th, 20:32.19) and Aiden Topalovich (22nd, 21:03.98) accounted for the team scoring. Akex Younts (27thm 22:15.83) and Elijah Taylor (32nd, 23:07.35) were unscored by ran for the W-G varsity.

W-G will resume competition Thursday at the Colfax-Mingo Invite.
