HUXLEY — Woodward-Granger faced a trio of much larger schools in a Thursday quadrangular, returning home with one win and valuable experience for their efforts.
Class 2A No. 4 Winterset was a 54-15 victor over W-G, with host Ballard slipping off with a 44-36 win while the Hawks were able to best Boone, 43-30. Winterset rolled past Ballard, 48-18, and Boone, 59-15, with Ballard a 53-21 victor over Boone in the other duals.
Defending 220-pound state champion Cody Fisher was 3-0 with a trio of pins for the Hawks. Fisher won by fall in 38 seconds against Ballard, in 2 minutes, 55 seconds against Boone, and in 25 ticks against Winterset.
Heavyweight Tyler Lawrenson won a 2-1 decision against Boone and an 8-5 decision against Winterset while also receiving a forfeit to finish 3-0 as well.
Also 3-0 for W-G was 106-pounder Peyton Nixon, who won by pin, 7-1 decision and forfeit, with Cale Pritchett 3-0 at 170 with a pin, a 6-2 decision and a forfeit.
Dustin Harney won by fall and by 9-0 major decision to finish 2-1 at 152 pounds, with Matthew White (132) 1-2 with a pin. Tjaden Smeltzer (126) and Jayden Flugge-Smith (138) were also 1-2, with each winning by forfeit.
Kade Polich finished 1-1 at 182, winning with a pin. W-G left 182 open against Boone.
Joel Harney (113), Corbyn Atwell (120), Jayden Dorenkamp (145), Clay Pehl (160) and Devan Brown (195) each wrestled three times for W-G, but all were unable to record a win.
W-G returns to action Saturday when they compete in the Interstate-35 Invitational at Truro.
