Two Waukee men were arrested early Saturday after allegedly shooting a gun in celebration of New Year’s Day.

Juan Jose Sanchez-Martinez, 23, of 120 Sixth St., Waukee, was charged with being a person ineligible to carry dangerous weapons.

Saul Israel Rostro-Sanchez, 25, of 120 Sixth St., Waukee, was charged with being a person ineligible to carry dangerous weapons.

The incident began about 12:15 a.m. Saturday, when a caller reported shots fired in the 100 block of Sixth Street in Waukee.

Officers of the Waukee Police Department responded and made contact with Sanchez-Matinez and Rostro-Sanchez.

According to court records, after officers found .380 shell casings outside the residence, Waukee Police Department Lieutenant Jeremy Long and Waukee Police Department Detective Bryan Levsen secured a search warrant to enter the residence.

Once inside the residence, the officers located the handgun. Sanchez-Martinez and Rostro-Sanchez “admitted to discharging the firearm,” and Sanchez-Martinez “admitted to ownership of the firearm,” according to court records.

Neither man is allowed to possess a gun “as both individuals are in the United States illegally,” according to court records.

Both men were held in the Dallas County Jail in advance of an initial appearance in Dallas County District Court.
