Waukee woman allegedly strangles boyfriend on Christmas Day

Megan Marie Barnes, 32, of Waukee was arrested Sunday on charges of domestic abuse assault-impeding flow of air/blood, assault on persons in certain occupations-bodily injury and assault on persons in certain occupations.

A Waukee woman was arrested Sunday after allegedly strangling her boyfriend on Christmas Day and then kicking law enforcement.

Megan Marie Barnes, 32, of 2326 S.E. Parkview Crossing Dr., Waukee, was charged with domestic abuse assault-impeding flow of air/blood, assault on persons in certain occupations-bodily injury and assault on persons in certain occupations.

The incident began about 11:45 p.m. Sunday in the 2300 block of S.E. Parkview Drive, where officers of the Waukee Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.

The officers made contact with the victim and a witness, who “confirmed” that Barnes allegedly “impeded the normal breathing or circulation of the blood by applying pressure to the throat or neck of” the victim, according to court records.

The officers attempted to speak” with Barnes “but due to intoxication and refusing to cooperate, officers were forced to place her into custody for assaulting a police officer” after she “kicked” an officer “down the stairs” and “continued to kick” the officer “at the bottom of the stairs,” according to court records.

The officer sustained “a small cut on his hand from the assault,” according to court records.

Barnes is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash or surety bond. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Jan. 5 in Dallas County District Court.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
