A West Des Moines man was arrested Friday after allegedly knocking unconscious his infant daughter.

Gregory David Stucky, 34, of 2140 Grand Ave., West Des Moines, was charged with child endangerment-serious injury.

The incident began about 5:45 p.m. Friday in the 400 block of Fourth Street in Waukee, where officers of the Waukee Police Department responded to a report of an unconscious child.

According to court records, Stucky called police and said “that he spanked his daughter, 1-year-old, and she was behaving strangely.”

The officers arrived and found “the child was not responsive on the ground but was breathing,” according to court records.

Stucky allegedly “admitted to striking the child on the back as punishment for a temper tantrum,” and the 1-year-old infant “then went to get up and was on her hands and knees, and he struck her in the back again, jolting her head and body forward, causing her head to hit the ground.”

Stucky said the child “then went limp and was gray in color,” according to court records.

The baby was transported to the hospital. Her condition is unknown.

Stucky is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $500,000 cash-only bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing May 18 in Dallas County District Court.
