A West Des Moines woman faces assault charges after she allegedly pepper sprayed one man and drenched another with a Big Gulp during a verbal dispute at a West Des Moines motel Thursday morning.

Josephine Dogbah, 23, of 7655 Office Plaza Dr., West Des Moines, was charged with assault and assault causing bodily injury or mental illness.

The incident began about 6:45 a.m. Thursday in the 7600 block of Office Plaza Drive, where Dogbah allegedly threw a “fountain-style drink cup towards the victim” after “initiating a verbal confrontation with him,” according to court records.

Dogbah allegedly assaulted the second victim “by pepper spraying him about the face and eyes, with no cause to do so,” according to court records.

Responding officers of the West Des Moines Police Department observed on the victim “red, swollen eyes” caused by the pepper spray and “extreme burn, causing lack of vision until the pepper spray was neutralized,” according to court records.

Dogbah is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,300 cash or surety bond. She is scheduled for an initial appearance June 11 in Dallas County District Court.
