A West Des Moines woman was arrested Friday afternoon after allegedly striking her husband in the face in the course of an argument.
Marda Jean Volkamer, 73, of 645 65th Pl., West Des Moines, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault.
The incident began about 1:15 p.m. Friday in the 600 block of 65th Place, where Volkamer allegedly “became upset during a verbal argument and slapped her husband with an open hand along the left side of his face” with such force “that his glasses broke and fell to the ground,” according to court records.
Officers of the West Des Moines Police Department responded, and Volkamer allegedly “did admit to striking her husband in the face because she was upset,” according to court records.
Volkamer is held in the Dallas County Jail in advance of an initial appearance in Dallas County District Court.
*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
