What are your numbers? Beat the central Iowa average

Here’s a not-so-great number: Central Iowa ranks 112 out of 126 mid-sized metropolitan areas in the country for physical well-being, according to the Gallup Well-Being Index 2018.

Your personal numbers are part of this bigger picture and are within your ability to change. These numbers include your blood pressure, cholesterol, A1C (blood sugar) and body mass index.

Do you know what’s “normal” for these measurements and what your readings are typically? More importantly, do you know how to change any of your numbers that are not in the healthy range?

If you haven’t had a physical exam within the past year, your insurance company might cover a clinic visit including all of these screenings, so check with your insurer, and then schedule an appointment.

To improve our community’s overall health, let’s each start with a focus on increasing our own current level of exercising. Start your change for improved numbers by joining Dallas County Public Health in a noon-time walk on Wednesday, Oct. 3. The walk will start at the Adel City Hall at 12 p.m.

Persons of all ages are welcome to join in this 1k walk, which will easily fit into your midday break. The walk is free of charge.
