Wildcats eliminate Panthers in postseason play Monday

LAKE CITY — West Central Valley and Panorama split their boys basketball meetings in the regular season, with WCV winning the rubber match Monday in a Class 2A District 15 First Round contest.

WCV (6-17) had won, 63-52, in the first game between the two West Central Conference foes this year, with Panorama (6-16) claiming a 47-39 victory in the rematch. Monday’s game was all WCV, as the Wildcats rolled to a 66-45 triumph.

The Wildcats ran out to an 18-7 lead after one period and held a 32-18 advantage at the intermission. The Panthers trailed, 48-31, entering the fourth quarter and could not make up the difference in having their season end.

Malachi Peasley had 14 points and seven assists for WCV, with Logan Pruitt adding 14 points, 11 rebounds and three assists. Knick Badker provided 10 points and Cody Hansen nine, with seven points form Ryan Hefferman, six from Josh Reed and three each from Cole Arnburg and Garrett Caltrider cappng the Wildcat scoring.

Peasley sank four of the 10 3-pointers made by the Wildcats. WCV finished 24-of-49 from the floor — including 10-of-18 beyond the 3-point arc — while making 8-of-13 free throws. Panorarma finished 4-of-8 at the stripe.

Luke South led the Panthers with 14 points, with Bryce Halterman adding 11, Gracen Welberg seven and Jeramy Randol six. Trey Cobb’s four points, two from Jacob Iseminger and a free throw from Blaine Barner accounted for Panorama’s offense. Halterman connected on three 3-pointers and South two.

Will Babcock, Peyton Parker, Mitchell Wagler, Halterman and Randol all had their prep careers on the hardwood ended with the loss.
