Wind chill advisory from Monday night until noon Tuesday

The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Johnston has issued a wind chill advisory for the Perry area from midnight tonight until noon on Tuesday, with very cold wind chills as low as 25 below zero forecast.

The wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes or less, the NWS said.

Use caution while traveling outside, and wear appropriate clothing, a hat and gloves.

Along with Dallas County, the wind chill advisory is in effect in Carroll, Greene, Boone, Story, Marshall, Tama, Guthrie, Polk, Jasper, Poweshiek, Adair, Madison, Warren, Marion and Mahaska counties.

Along with Perry, cities under the wind chill advisory include Carroll, Jefferson, Boone, Ames, Marshalltown, Tama, Toledo, Traer, Dysart, Gladbrook, Guthrie Center, Panora, Bayard, Casey, Waukee, Adel, Des Moines, Newton, Grinnell, Greenfield, Stuart, Adair,
Fontanelle, Winterset, Earlham, Indianola, Norwalk, Carlisle, Pella, Knoxville and Oskaloosa.

The NWS expects a slight moderation in temperatures Tuesday afternoon, but an additional advisory is likely to be issued for parts of the area on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
