The National Weather Service office in Johnston has issued a wind chill advisory for the Perry area for Sunday from midnight until 11 a.m.
Wind chills as low as 25 below zero are forecast over much of central Iowa, the NWS said.
The patchy, blowing snow and bitterly cold temperature will linger into Sunday evening, with additional accumulations of 1 to 2 inches through the U.S. Highway 20 corridor and lesser amounts north and south.
Along with Dallas County, the wind chill advisory is in effect for Audubon, Guthrie, Polk, Cass, Adair and Madison counties.
Along with Perry, the wind chill advisory is in effect for the cities of Audubon, Exira, Guthrie Center, Panora, Bayard, Casey, Waukee, Adel, Des Moines, Atlantic, Greenfield, Stuart, Adair, Fontanelle, Winterset and Earlham.
