The National Weather Services (NWS) office in Johnston has issued a winter weather advisory for the Perry area from 9 a.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday.

Icy conditions are forecast for Saturday morning as areas of freezing drizzle or freezing rain develop over central to northern Iowa, the NWS said. The freezing rain will persist and even increase into the afternoon hours, with a wintry mix of rain and snow becoming all snow in the early evening.

One to three inches of snow is forecast, and as much as one-quarter inch of ice might accrue over northeast Iowa. Icy roads and strong easterly winds will make travel hazardous, and power outages are possible.

Along with Dallas County, the winter weather advisory will apply in Winnebago, Worth, Hancock, Cerro Gordo, Wright, Franklin, Hamilton, Boone, Story, Polk, Jasper, Poweshiek, Madison, Warren, Marion and Mahaska counties.

Along with Perry, cities in the winter weather advisory area are Forest City, Lake Mills, Northwood, Manly, Garner, Britt, Kanawha, Mason City, Clear Lake, Eagle Grove, Clarion, Belmond, Hampton, Webster City, Boone, Ames, Waukee, Adel, Des Moines, Newton, Grinnell, Winterset, Earlham, Indianola, Norwalk, Carlisle, Pella, Knoxville and Oskaloosa.
