A Wisconsin couple was arrested on U.S. Interstate 80 Friday morning for allegedly transporting some 50 pounds of marijuana.

Samuel Denard Maymon, 37, of 917 Laurie Dr., Madison, Wisconsin, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, failure to affix a drug tax stamp and prohibited acts by a registrant.

Alicia S. Hatley, 34, of 2715 Marshall Court, #117, Madison, Wisconsin, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, failure to affix a drug tax stamp and prohibited acts by a registrant.

The incident began about 7:15 a.m. Friday at the 104 mile market of eastbound U.S. Interstate 80, where an Iowa State Patrol Trooper stopped a 2018 Nissan Altima “for multiple traffic violations,” according to court records.

During the traffic stop, the trooper developed a “reasonable articulable suspicion to believe the occupants were engaging in criminal activity,” according to court records. A dog was summoned to “perform a free air sniff,” and the dog “gave a positive indication to the odor of narcotics emanating from the vehicle.”

A search of the vehicle ensued, disclosing “approximately 50 pounds of marijuana vacuum sealed and zip-lock bagged in the trunk and passenger compartment,” according to court records.

Maymon is held in Dallas County Jail on a $12,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled to make an initial appearance Saturday in Dallas County District Court.

Hatley is held in Dallas County Jail on a $12,000 cash or surety bond. She is scheduled to make an initial appearance Saturday in Dallas County District Court.
