With snow to 8 inches, winter storm warning issued

The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Johnston has issued a winter storm warning until 6 p.m. for the Perry area, with snow up to 8 inches forecast.

A band of moderate accumulations is expected mainly along and north of U.S. Interstate 80, and an area of heavy accumulations is forecast mainly along the U.S. Interstate 80 corridor west of Des Moines.

Accumulation will be in the one inch to one and one-half inch per hour rate at times within the winter storm warning area. Lighter snow amounts are expected south of U.S. Interstate 80, and the precipitation might mix with freezing rain, causing travel impacts.

The precipitation is expected to diminish quickly from west to east by mid to late afternoon.

Along with Dallas County, the winter storm warning is in effect in Crawford, Carroll, Greene, Boone, Audubon, Guthrie, Cass and Adair counties.

Along with Perry, cities in the winter storm warning include Denison, Carroll, Jefferson, Boone, Audubon, Exira, Guthrie Center, Panora, Bayard, Casey, Waukee, Adel, Atlantic, Greenfield, Stuart, Adair and Fontanelle.
