UPDATE: Woodward Academy runaway found early Sunday

A teenage runaway from the Woodward Academy was located shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday near the Casey’s store in Woodward and returned to the academy campus.

The youth was reported missing about 9:45 p.m. Saturday.

The Woodward Police Department and the Dallas County Sheriff’s office responded while the Woodward Volunteer Fire Department was occupied with fireworks-related reports.

  1. What is going on at that for-profit business? I hope everyone realizes the state of Iowa is not in charge, but a for-profit business is and they are having runners every week of late. At what point will Woodward’s citizens’ safety become a consideration? Or do they have to wait for an incident before their safety becomes an actual real concern? If the state ran that facility, we could get our local politicians to get involved, but what can they do here? It is a private business, and angry politicians do not have that much power over them as they would if it were a minimum-security prison run by the state. Remember these young men are not there because they annoyed too many people by doing good works.
