A fire in a chicken coop at 27970 150th St. was quickly extinguished Monday morning by the Woodward Volunteer Fire Department.

A report of smoke in a chicken coop at 27970 150th St. brought the Woodward Volunteer Fire Department to the scene about 9:30 a.m. Monday, where the fire was quickly controlled.

Initial reports, later proving unfounded, said the 65-year-old pole barn was fully engulfed with flames, leading the Woodward department to call for mutual aid from the Granger and Perry volunteer forces.

The chicken house’s proximity to a machine shed made the fire’s spreading a concern.

The call for aid was cancelled when the outbuilding was found only to be smoking, and the fire was rapidly extinguished by the Woodward firefighters.

According to county records, the 4-acre property is owned by Patrick Glasgow.
