More than 100 light poles in Perry’s Downtown Cultural District — along with bike racks, benches, hand rails, you name it — were sheathed in colorful yarn this weekend in advance of next Saturday’s second annual Fiber Art Fair, sponsored by Art on the Prairie and La Poste.

Daylong circles of spinning and crafting make the Fiber Art Fair at Lo Poste a highly interactive event. Visitors are welcome to bring their own spinning wheel, drop spindle, work in progresss or finished project to show off or to work on in company.

The day will also feature classes and demonstrations, with a number of local vendors selling yarns, spinning wheels, drop spindles, woven and knit goods, fiber arts supplies and more.

The ladies of La Poste will be baking their customary cookies, and wine and mimosas will be available.

The Perry Piecemakers Quilting Guild will host a Scrappy Quilt and Fish Collage display from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Citizens Bank Building at 1124 Second St. Marti Klatt will present “Favorite Quilting Tips, Tricks and Tools or She Who Cheats — Wins!” at 11 a.m. Klatt is a member of both the Perry Piecemakers Quilt Guild and the Des Moines Area Quilt Guild.

At 2 p.m. in the Citizens Bank Building, the Bitsy Chicks on Parade, a group from the Des Moines Area Quilting Guild, will share dozens of small quilts that represent their interpretation of quilt challenges over the years. The presentation promises to entertain quilters and all who love to discover artistic creativity in a new form.

Confirmed vendors for the 2018 Fiber Art Fair include Wool Mittens, Girl with a Sword Productions,  Leilani McDonald, Creations Looming, Ada’s Acres, Char’s Bit of Black and Two Cedars Weaving, with last-minute additions expected.

The following classes will also be offered at La Poste:

The cost is $15.  Materials neeed include 5.50 mm (I) hook. Instructor Tasha Wells will provide yarn for the class. For more information, contact Wells at  cozilycovered@gmail.com.
