As an example of an unsafe consumer product, the Life is Good Co. on Thursday recalled their darkest blue women’s fleece sweatshirts and men’s fleece shorts due to a violation of the federal flammability standard and burn hazard.

December sees many purchasing toys, electronics and much more. Use the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website as you research and shop online.

The website explains why products are being pulled off the market and how to get a refund if you already purchased them. There are photos and exact product code numbers so you can identify the defective items.

Here are some examples of of products judged unacceptable for safety reasons by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission:

  • Tora portable power charging stations, which have caught on fire while charging.
  • Tangame Busy Toy Houses for toddlers, containing lead-based paint.
  • Goalsetter wall-mounted basketball goals that easily detach themselves and fall to the ground.
  • Amazon Basics desk chairs with leg bases found to break and cause falls and other injuries.
  • Jammers Apparel children’s sleepwear that fails to meet the flammability standards for children’s pajamas.

For each item being recalled, the Consumer Product Safety Commission gives specific websites, phone numbers and other information about how to remedy the problem.

In some cases, the individual can simply be refunded their money. In other cases, such as the basketball goals, the company offers free removal of the defective product and free installation of a replacement with an additional safety bracket.
