It was Blue on Blue Thursday at Dewey Field as the Perry football team held a scrimmage against themselves as part of their preparations for the season opener next Friday at North Polk.

They team requested fans bring one or more bottles of a sports drink in lieu of admission, and a nice collection was garnered. More are, of course, needed, and any fans willing to do so may make donations of sports drinks throughout the season.

“We kept it pretty simple tonight, just wanting to make sure everyone is on the same page,” co-head coach Matt Hardy said. “The point was to get some work in and try and get used to game speed as you can in this kind of setting.”

Hardy said he was pleased with what he saw while noting — as every coach everywhere would say — his team “still has a lot of work to do.”

Hardy and the coaching staff will learn more tonight as the team holds a joint practice/scrimmage with South Hamilton.

Perry follows their game at North Polk with a trip to Nevada September 1 before Ballard visits Dewey Field for the Bluejay home (and District 2) opener September 8. A visit to Boone is slated for September 15, with Homecoming scheduled for September 22, with DC-G the opponent.
