Saturday’s Fiber Art Fair in Perry’s Downtown Cultural District, sponsored by Art on the Prairie and La Poste, brought a splash of color and character to half-a-dozen venues.

The day was filled with classes and demonstrations of the sempstress’ arts in all their infinite variety, and organizer Jenny Eklund said the event was a big success.

“You wouldn’t believe it,” Eklund said during the lunchtime lull in her nonstop day. “All the restaurants are loving it. The vendors are all doing a booming business. This turned out just the way we hoped.”

Lattes, espressos, coffee and tea were served all day at the Perry Perk, and mimosas and Bloody Marys were available in the basement of La Poste. Reggie Greenlaw played live music from 10 a.m. until 2:45 p.m.

The Perry Piecemakers Quilt Guild conducted various activities, including presentations by Mary Ann Holcomb, Jo Anne Schnebly and Marti Klatt. Betsy Peterson Designs and Ben’s Five and Dime also hosted fiber arts.

The lineup of vendors and demonstrators for the Fiber Art Fair includes Two Cedars Weaving, Adel Quilting, Three Smooth Stones, Leilani McDonald, Gayla Low Designs, Born in a Barn Fiber Arts, Pointy Stix, Designs by Ross, Girl with a Sword Productions, Lorinda Inman, Creations Looming and Diane Corson.
