Hawk girls battle strong competition at Ogden

OGDEN — Powerful teams from Gilbert and Madrid dominated the Ogden Girls Invitational Thursday.

Gilbert scored 180 points to place first, with Madrid second at 140. Ogden was a distant third with 75 points, with Ballard scoring 60 points and Martensdale-St. Mary’s 54. Woodward-Granger and Colfax-Mingo finished with 39 apiece to complete the seven-team field.

The distance medley foursome of Kaitlyn Bandstra, Anna Tague, Emma Drake and Kaitlyn Peters provided the best finish for the Hawks after finishing second in 4 minutes, 42.38 seconds.

The sprint medley unit of Bandstra, Tague, Drake and Mae Anderson were fourth in 2:03.07, with Natalie Helbling, Maddi Danti and Chloe and Savannah David were also fourth, finishing in 1:25.33.

Bandstra, Tague, Anderson and Drake were fifth in the 4×100 (57.47), Helbling, Savannah David, Riley Jamison and Regan Kaufman were fifth in the 4×800 (11;59.06) and Chloe David, Quinn Kaufman, Alyssa Bice and Anderson placed sixth in the 4×200 (2:08.38).

Peters was fifth in the 1500 in 5:43.66 and Savannah David sixth in the 400 low hurdles in 1:24.25 while Drake crossed third in the 800 in 2:37.46.

Tague used a 29.08 second clocking in the 200 to place fifth while Jamison placed sixth in the 400 with a time of 1:16.14.

W-G scored in just one field event, with Emma Buckman’s spin of 101 feet, 6-1/2 inches claiming third place in the discus.

Both W-G teams will compete at Southeast Valley Tuesday and again at West Central Valley Thursday.
