WOODWARD — Five first-inning runs helped set the tone as Woodward-Granger rolled to an 11-1 six-inning win over Panorama Monday in their Class 2A Region 7 First Round contest.

The win sends W-G (15-19) to Collins Wednesday, where they will seek an upset of top-ranked CMB (25-5). The game will begin at 7 p.m.

Five seniors — Miranda Aunspach, Kendra Husmann, Riley Jamison, Bree Lesch and Maggi Mallon — played their final game on Phil Creese Diamond in the win, and all had a hand in bringing about the victory, especially Jamison.

W-G right fielder Kayley Dresback pulls in a fly ball for the final out of the first inning.

She collected the win in the circle by allowing only one run in six frames. Jamison issued two walks and allowed seven hits while striking out three and was her own best friend at the plate, belting three doubles and driving in five runs.

Her bases-clearing three-run double sparked the first-inning eruption, with Lesch adding a RBI-sacrifice squeeze in the frame.

Jamison doubled to open the fifth for the Hawks, with courtesy runner Natalie Weaver (as she did three times in the game) scoring on a Lesch RBI-single.

Mallon had a run-scoring single in the sixth, with Jamison driving in two with her third two-bagger. Alissa Smeltzer sent a run home on a ground out, with Alexis Bixler knocking in a run with a base hit.

Panorama did their best to continue the contest in the sixth when Kellie Prince walked, moved to third on a Kennedy Andersen double and came home on the second of Lydia Knapp’s two singles, but Jamison closed the door to end the contest one inning early. The Panthers bow out at 5-17, with Mathison Twigg playing in her final prep contest.

Panorama’s Lydia Knapp connects for one of her two base bits Monday.

Olivia Richey threw five innings, surrendering six runs (five earned) on seven hits and six walks. She finished with two strikeouts. Prince tossed a frame of relief and was touched for five runs on three hits and three walks.

Lydia Knapp had two singles and a RBI, Maddie Knapp a single and a walk and Prince a walk and a run scored for the Panthers. Andersen had a double, with Twigg, Nicole Rolfes and Hannah Woodworth also providing base hits.

Major drew four walks, stole one base and scored twice for W-G, with Mallon adding a RBI-single, Aunspach a hit and two runs, Lesch a hit, walk, steal and two RBIs and Husmann a hit and two runs.

Smeltzer and Bixler each had run-scoring hits, with Katelyn Bandstra adding a base hit, a steal and a run scored.
