Panorama girls 2-3 in latest contests

PANORA — The Panorama softball team will enter Saturday’s Southeast Valley Tournament with an overall record of 2-8 after a pair of wins among the five latest games for the Panthers. The team is 1-5 in WCAC play.

Madrid won a high-scoring affair in Panora Tuesday, claiming a 17-12 victory. The Tigers had defeated the Panthers, 9-0, earlier this season.

The loss followed a 10-7 win Monday at AC/GC. Panorama played three times in the Atlantic Tournament Saturday, opening with a 22-10 win in four innings over Clarinda before dropping an 8-3 game to Lewis Central. The hosts no-hit Panorama for a 12-0 win in three frames in the final game of the tourney.

Madrid opened Tuesday’s game with four runs in the top of the first, but Panorama answered with a six-spot in their first at-bat to seize the lead. The score was knotted at 8-all after four frames when Madrid scored twice in the fifth and seven times in the sixth to create a 17-8 bulge. The Panthers plated three runs in the sixth and another in the seventh but it was far from enough.

Kellie Prince tossed six frames for Panorama, yielding 11 runs (only five of which were earned) on 13 hits and four walks. Olivia Richey threw one frame, allowing six runs (four earned) on two hits and four walks. Each pitcher tallied one strikeout.

Maddie Knapp was 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs while scoring twice for the hosts, with Nicole Rolfes hitting a double. Lydia Knapp had a single, a double and a RBI, with Hannah Woodworth adding a double and two RBIs. Prince scored three times and Kennedy Andersen twice to highlight the Panorama offense.

Monday’s game saw Panorama break open a 7-7 game with three runs in the their last at-bat and then keep AC/GC scoreless to claim a 10-7 WCAC win.

Richey surrendered four runs (three earned) on four hits and five walks while striking out six in five innings. Prince collected the win, allowing three runs on four hits in two innings of work.

The Panthers had 13 hits in the win, all singles. Mathison Twigg had three hits, Prince, Lydia Knapp and Maddie Knapp two each and Anderson, Richey, Rolfes and Ashley Clark one apiece.

Woodworth and Twigg each drove in two runs, with Anderson and Shey Storesund both stealing two bases while Clark and Prince also had thefts.

Panorama jumped to a 3-0 lead against Clarinda in Saturday’s first game, only to have the Cardinals touch home six times in the bottom of the frame. The Panthers responded with 1 14-run second inning and never looked back for their first win of the year.

Lydia Knapp, Andersen, Richey and Woodworth each had three hits, Prince and Rolfes two each and Twigg one. Prince, Andersen, Richey and Lydia Knapp each hit doubles.

Woodworth finished with six RBIs and Andersen and Richey with four each while Lydia Knapp plated three runs.

Prince won in the ring with three innings of duty. She yielded 10 runs (six earned) on seven hits and a walk while striking out two. Richey tossed one inning, fanning three.

Lewis Central scored four times in the first inning to spark an 8-3 win in game two Saturday.

Prince, Woodworth, Richey, Twigg and Lydia Knapp had hits, with Andersen, Twigg and Rolfes recording RBIs while Prince, Storesund and Lydia Knapp scored.

Richey went six innings on the rubber, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on seven hits and four walks. She struck out two.

Ally Anderson struck out five in two innings and Olivia Engler two in one frame as Atlantic won, 12-0, in a three-inning no-hitter to conclude Saturday’s action.

Richey went 2-2/3 innings, allowing 12 runs on 10 hits while walking five and striking out two. Grace Richey recorded one out, allowing two hits along the way. Seven Trojan runs were unearned.
